Area's hospitality workers barely eke out a living

Sal Sandoval, a bright, Seaside-grown 21-year-old with a hearty laugh, is leaving Monterey County.
He has worked at several Monterey Peninsula hotels as a houseman, a bellman and in room service. Sal is a second-generation hospitality worker, who saw his mother, Alicia, struggle for 16 years cleaning rooms at the Monterey Hilton to carve out a middle-class life for him and his siblings.
