Labor unions' popularity is growing

Why are unions so popular? Consider this: The UAW is a strong advocate of raising the federal minimum wage -- a position supported by 83 percent of those surveyed by the Pew Research Center in 2006. We're also strong advocates of single-payer national health insurance -- and the Pew Center found in 2005 that 65 percent of the public is in favor of a government guarantee of health care, even if it means higher taxes.
